Pump Coin price gained 17% over 24 hours to reach $0.00519, extending its weekly advance to 38%. The rally occurred while the broader cryptocurrency market declined 1.37% to $2.87 trillion, with Bitcoin trading near $84,000, Ethereum around $2,677, and XRP near $1.50.
Buyback Program Supports Price Recovery
Pump.fun's buyback initiative appears to be a key driver of PUMP's recent performance. The platform directs approximately half its revenue toward purchasing tokens and permanently removing them from circulation. The platform recorded a $1.14 million token purchase on September 27, following a $1.46 million purchase the previous day. Since launching the program, Pump.fun has spent more than $463 million on buybacks, permanently burning over 168 billion tokens.
The recurring purchases create demand while reducing supply. Strong trading activity on the Solana-based platform generates fee revenue that funds larger repurchase amounts. Despite this week's sharp rebound, PUMP remains approximately 44% below its all-time high.
Regulatory Clarity on Buyback Announcements
SEC staff guidance issued September 25 addressed buyback announcements involving non-security tokens on functional networks. The guidance stated that such announcements alone do not necessarily constitute essential managerial efforts under securities law. The guidance neither classifies PUMP as a security nor grants Pump.fun a legal exemption, and carries no binding force.
Platform Overtakes Competitor in Weekly Revenue
Pump.fun surpassed Hyperliquid in seven-day revenue rankings according to DefiLlama data. Pump.fun generated $15.16 million during the latest seven-day period, narrowly ahead of Hyperliquid's $15.06 million. This placed Pump third among tracked crypto applications, behind stablecoin issuers Tether at $121.64 million and Circle at $50.40 million.
Technical Price Movement
PUMP reached $0.005196 on September 28, gaining 3.12% during a four-hour trading period, briefly touching $0.005366 before declining from that level. The token moved above $0.0048, a level that had previously limited recovery attempts. The four-hour relative strength index stood at 70.12, while Chaikin Money Flow measured 0.11, indicating positive buying pressure.
