Québec's Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) warned on September 25 that Pump.fun is not registered with the regulator and is not authorized to solicit investors in the province. The platform, which facilitates user-generated digital assets, was flagged as a high-risk cryptoasset platform.
The AMF's published notice clarifies the platform's regulatory status for Québec residents. The Canadian Securities Administrators also listed the alert, identifying the AMF as its issuer and recording the finding about registration and solicitation authorization.
Scope of the Warning
The warning is limited to the platform's lack of AMF registration and authorization to solicit Québec investors. The notice does not announce a website ban, enforcement order, fraud finding, or changes to user wallet access.
What Residents Should Know
The AMF advises Quebeckers to exercise caution before dealing with entities on its high-risk list. The regulator directs prospective investors to check its registers to verify whether a firm or person is authorized to operate in the province.
The distinction between regulatory status and price risk is important. While Pump.fun's terms warn that user-generated digital assets can fluctuate significantly in value, that risk disclosure does not address the registration question raised by the AMF notice. Regulatory authorization and token price volatility are separate considerations.
