Revolut Crypto Trading Halted as Google Cloud Outage Causes Blank Portfolios

Revolut customers experienced significant service disruptions on Tuesday morning, with many reporting blank portfolio balances and inability to access their cryptocurrency and stock investments. The financial platform confirmed that cryptocurrency and stock trading became partially unavailable, affecting multiple services across Europe.

According to reports from affected users, portfolio screens displayed no balance information, preventing investors from monitoring holdings or executing trades. In Portugal alone, Revolut listed 31 affected services. Some customers reported that holdings remained visible but transactions triggered errors, while others experienced broader access issues across the platform.

The disruption extended beyond cryptocurrency trading. Revolut customers also reported failed card payments, inaccessible bank accounts, and disrupted transfers across Europe.

Revolut confirmed in a statement that customers' money and data remained secure and that engineers were working to restore services. However, the company did not provide a confirmed recovery timeline or specify the total number of affected investors.

Google Cloud Outage Linked to Disruption

The trading disruption appears connected to a major Google Cloud outage in London that began at 7:08 a.m. Lisbon time. Google reported widespread service errors and intermittent network failures affecting its European infrastructure. Sources indicated that Revolut's service problems were connected to the cloud outage.

The incident underscores the dependency of cryptocurrency traders on centralized financial platforms and their underlying technology providers. While blockchain networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum continued operating normally, investors' ability to access and trade their holdings remained blocked by the intermediary platform's infrastructure failures.
