Revolut, the British fintech and crypto firm, has announced it is ready to invest at least $1 billion in Latin American markets as it targets the region as a pivotal driver of growth from 2027 onward. The company expects one in every four customers it acquires in 2027 to come from Latin America, with Brazil cemented as its largest growth market.
Investment Commitment
Carlos Urrutia, general manager of international expansion at Revolut, told investors that the $1 billion figure is a minimum commitment. “This is not the maximum value. It’s a number we’re committed to for now, and that could grow as we see that markets need more,” he said. Glauber Mota, CEO of Revolut in Brazil, added: “We have achieved this commitment of US$1 billion as a minimum investment. If we see, quarter after quarter, opportunities worth accelerating, we are a healthy company, with a solid balance sheet.”
Focus Countries
The investment will target Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina, where Revolut already operates or is on the verge of starting operations. In Peru, the company is in the final steps of receiving a full banking license, and in Mexico it recently received a similar license from local regulators. Revolut is also preparing to launch a local operation in Colombia, where it is currently building a waitlist.
Selection Criteria
Revolut said it evaluated four key aspects when selecting Latin America as the focus of its expansion: the openness of regulators, a young and large population, openness toward digital services, and ties to markets where the company already operates. Urrutia believes the region combines all four.
Chile and In-House Strategy
Beyond the five key nations, Chile is also in Revolut’s sights. “We cannot give deadlines for Chile. It’s more a question of when than if,” Urrutia said. He also stressed that the company would not pursue acquisitions, seeking instead to develop all technology in-house to avoid integrating technologies outside its standards.
