Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated that U.S. cryptocurrency regulation is approaching a decisive point, following discussions at the White House and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Garlinghouse connected the current policy momentum to a seven-year campaign for clear federal market rules.
During a gathering at the White House alongside President Donald Trump, federal regulators, and financial industry leaders, participants discussed digital asset legislation, capital formation, tokenization, and technological competitiveness. The meetings highlighted growing alignment between traditional financial institutions and the digital asset sector.
Policy discussions continued at the CFTC's inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting, covering regulatory overlap, consumer protections, and the lack of a comprehensive federal market framework. Representatives from traditional financial market infrastructure providers, including Nasdaq, the New York Stock Exchange, and CME Group, participated in the talks.
Despite the recent momentum, the CLARITY Act faces unresolved disputes in Congress. Senate Democrats have raised concerns regarding presidential financial conflicts, anti-fraud standards, consumer protections, and illicit-finance safeguards.
While congressional negotiations remain unsettled, regulators are advancing parallel efforts. CFTC officials indicated the agency could act under existing authority to prepare a crypto market regime without waiting for the CLARITY Act. Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed federal offering routes for certain crypto investment contracts under Regulation Crypto Assets, which includes a 60-day public comment period.
