Ripple Expands GSmart With Policy-Governed AI for Treasury Operations

Ripple expanded GSmart on September 10, adding artificial intelligence capabilities to its Treasury platform for cash forecasting, liquidity management, financial risk, reconciliation, and reporting. The system is designed to recommend treasury actions while keeping final decision-making authority with authorized personnel.

GSmart separates financial calculation from AI interpretation. Deterministic engines—which produce identical results from identical inputs—perform underlying calculations, while AI agents interpret company policies, detect patterns, and explain recommendations before proposing actions to treasury staff for approval.

Each AI agent monitors a defined treasury process, recommends a response, and identifies the specific policy supporting that recommendation. The Knowledge Studio governance layer allows treasury departments to establish organizational policies and controls applied before actions reach an approver.

AI Governance as Deployment Accelerates

Ripple's emphasis on governance comes as companies deploy AI agents at an accelerating pace. According to Gartner's April projection, an average Fortune 500 enterprise could use more than 150,000 agents by 2028, compared with fewer than 15 in 2025. However, only 13% of organizations believed they had appropriate AI agent governance.

Renaat Ver Eecke, senior vice president of Ripple Treasury, stated that the approach ensures "humans remain in control of every decision" while allowing organizations to "surface recommendations transparently" within their own treasury policies.

Integration With Digital and Traditional Assets

The GSmart expansion advances Ripple's broader corporate finance strategy launched with Ripple Treasury in January. The platform combines conventional cash management with infrastructure for digital assets, including the dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD and the cryptocurrency XRP.

Finance departments can now hold, monitor, receive, and manage XRP and RLUSD through existing workflows. The system records native asset amounts, corresponding fiat values, and market prices at the time of each transaction while consolidating positions across banks and custodians.

Early adoption data shows that some eligible customers are already using the platform's automated monitoring tools. Ripple reported that 60% have enabled Risk Insights to identify exposure anomalies and policy breaches, while 44% use Forecast Insights to compare projected and actual cash flows for identifying liquidity gaps.
