At the XRP Seoul 2026 conference, Ripple's Senior Director of Engineering Ayo Akinyele detailed an engineering roadmap centered on trust, privacy, scalability, and AI agent support for the XRP Ledger.
Privacy and Scalability Enhancements
Ripple announced confidential transfers powered by zero-knowledge proofs, designed to address institutional concerns about on-chain transaction transparency. The feature would allow organizations to keep sensitive transaction workflows private while still proving their validity to the network and regulators.
The company is also developing transaction batching, which bundles multiple transactions or operations to execute on an all-or-nothing basis. Additional work includes formal verification and adversarial testing to support more complex financial operations on the ledger.
AI Agent Infrastructure
According to Akinyele, AI agents have already generated substantial activity on the XRP Ledger, with related network volume surpassing 11 million transactions. Ripple is developing dedicated infrastructure to support autonomous agents, including verifiable identities, permissions and spending controls, and secure smart wallets capable of holding both XRP and stablecoins.
The company aims to enable AI agents to transact autonomously within predefined safeguards. The XRP Ledger's settlement speed of approximately three to five seconds is positioned as particularly suitable for machine-to-machine payments and automated financial activity.
Institutional and Developer Adoption
Ripple indicated the upgrades are intended to prepare the XRP Ledger for expanded institutional and developer adoption, moving the network beyond simple payments toward more complete institutional and automated use cases.
