Ripple has partnered with Privy, a Stripe-owned company, to bring embedded wallets and AI-driven payments to the XRP Ledger. The collaboration aims to expand agentic commerce, where software agents can execute payments on behalf of users without manual approval.
What Is Agentic Commerce?
Agentic commerce describes purchases that AI agents make on a user's behalf, including payments for data, computing power, and software. The XRP Ledger is a public blockchain that settles payments in XRP and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin.
How the Partnership Works
Privy's programmable wallets handle wallet creation, user approvals, and embedded crypto payments inside applications. Developers can build payment apps using XRP, RLUSD, and other assets without requiring users to manage private keys.
The partnership builds on Ripple's AI Starter Kit, released in June. Central to the integration is x402, an open payment protocol designed for automated software-to-software transactions. An AI agent could purchase data access, settle the payment on the XRP Ledger, and receive the service instantly.
Current Adoption Metrics
Ripple reports that approximately 14 million AI agent payments have been processed on the XRP Ledger, representing about 25% of network activity. This figure has grown from 1 million payments recorded in July. Most of these payments involve small amounts, reflecting adoption patterns rather than transaction value.
Market Context
XRP traded near $1.37 on October 13, within a range of $1.31 to $1.38, with a market cap near $86.7 billion. Sustained price movement will depend on broader market conditions and further adoption of these tools by developers and businesses.
