Ripple Prepares XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 Upgrade for Activation

Ripple says asset managers and commercial projects are preparing to use Batch V1.1, an upcoming XRP Ledger upgrade designed to group linked transactions so they all settle or all fail together.

The feature can combine as many as eight transactions into a single operation. Its all-or-nothing settlement ensures that every transaction succeeds or the entire group is canceled, preventing cases where one side of a deal completes while the other fails.

Planned Use Cases

Batch V1.1 could support delivery-versus-payment transactions, where an asset transfer and its payment move atomically on the ledger rather than through separate operations. The upgrade could also allow exchanges, wallets, and marketplaces to attach service fees directly to customer transactions, processing both as one operation instead of separate transfers.

"Some projects are already being built with Batch in mind, so activation would allow that work to move closer to production," said Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX.

Activation Timeline

Batch V1.1 is expected to activate shortly after September 29 if validator support remains above 80 percent. The amendment has support from 30 of the XRP Ledger's 35 tracked validators, exceeding the 28 votes required to enter its activation countdown, which began September 15 at 14:06:41 UTC.

Security Review Following Earlier Flaw

The upgrade approaches activation after an extensive redesign and security review. Researchers found a critical flaw in Batch V1.0's signature-validation process in February that could allow attackers to include unauthorized transactions from other accounts. The vulnerable code never governed the live ledger and no funds were exposed.

Before resubmitting the feature, RippleX redesigned parts of the signing and authorization model and significantly expanded the security review. The replacement shipped in xrpld version 3.3.0, released August 6. The review included internal adversarial testing, AI-assisted analysis, a Sherlock attack contest, and assessments by security firms Halborn and Common Prefix.
