Ripple has re-locked 700 million XRP into escrow following its regular monthly release of 1 billion tokens. According to blockchain tracker Whale Alert, the company locked 500 million XRP valued near $680.2 million and 200 million XRP worth approximately $272 million back into escrow through separate transactions.
Transaction data from community validator Vet confirmed two EscrowCreate transactions on the XRP Ledger covering the same amounts. The activity reflects Ripple's established escrow management process, which the company has used for several years to handle scheduled XRP releases.
The monthly release initially reduced Ripple's remaining on-chain escrow balance to approximately 31.28 billion XRP, representing roughly 31.28% of XRP's original 100 billion token supply. The re-locked portion removes those tokens from the immediately available supply.
The transaction sequence left 300 million XRP outside the newly created escrow contracts, held in a Ripple-controlled wallet. Vet described this amount as typical for Ripple's monthly escrow process. Unused portions of monthly releases can be placed into new escrow contracts with later release dates.
XRP price has declined approximately 3% to $1.34 at the time of reporting, according to CoinMarketCap. The decline occurred alongside broader cryptocurrency market weakness rather than as a direct result of the escrow transactions. Bitcoin has fallen below $77,000 as markets react to geopolitical developments.
