Coinbase confirmed on October 28 that Ripple USD, or RLUSD, is available to eligible users on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and its consumer application. The exchange supports deposits and withdrawals on the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum, with dollar-to-RLUSD conversion offered at a one-to-one rate as part of the initial offering.
Coinbase indicated that availability through its Global Exchange and potential use of RLUSD as collateral will follow. Ripple also intends to supply liquidity on Base. The integration combines custody, execution and movement across supported networks—functions that stablecoin users typically access separately.
Market and Operational Considerations
The expansion represents a distribution milestone for the dollar-referenced token rather than a new cryptocurrency launch. Institutional treasuries holding stablecoins require access to redemption, movement and balance reconciliation capabilities alongside trading venues.
Coinbase frames the integration as part of its broader effort to offer multiple dollar-denominated instruments, while Ripple positions RLUSD toward regulated payments, settlement and institutional finance. The supported blockchain list does not automatically mean bridges or conversions are free of costs or risks.
What Remains Unclear
Regional eligibility still applies, and Coinbase explicitly marks some Global Exchange functionality for the future. Stablecoin holders should verify which network they are using, what fees apply and how redemption and customer protections work in their jurisdiction.
RLUSD and XRP are distinct assets. Rising stablecoin circulation cannot automatically be converted into price expectations for the ledger's native token. Key metrics to follow include network-specific balances, trading depth and institutional usage.
