Robinhood has added $25 million worth of Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet. The trading platform framed the purchase as a statement of commitment to crypto rather than a bet on financial returns.
Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international, disclosed the purchase during a livestreamed interview. At Bitcoin's current price of $85,582, the purchase equals roughly 292 BTC, representing approximately 0.025% of Robinhood's $100 billion market value.
A Change in Position
Less than a year earlier, the company's incoming chief financial officer had raised concerns about the decision. In November 2025, Shiv Verma, then Robinhood's incoming CFO, questioned whether holding Bitcoin was the best use of company capital, citing other priorities including new products, growth, and engineering investment. Verma noted that alignment with the crypto community could be a benefit but emphasized the company would continue reviewing the pros and cons.
Verma has since assumed the CFO role, and the company proceeded with the purchase.
Scale and Context
Kerbrat acknowledged the stake is small relative to Robinhood's size and would do little to change the company's trajectory. The $25 million purchase represents about 0.025% of Robinhood's market value.
Robinhood's cryptocurrency revenue fell 38% year-over-year to $100 million in the second quarter, while total revenue rose 32% to a record $1.31 billion.
Broader Crypto Expansion
The Bitcoin purchase accompanies other crypto initiatives. Robinhood Chain, the company's layer-2 network built on Arbitrum technology, launched its public mainnet on July 1 and has accumulated $1.047 billion in total value locked, according to DefiLlama. The network crossed $1 billion roughly 80 days after launch, though growth has since slowed.
Robinhood also plans to offer perpetual futures for eligible US customers, with up to 10x leverage on Bitcoin and Ethereum. The company unveiled these products alongside in-app AI agents.
