Robinhood Adds Bitcoin to Balance Sheet as US Government Wallets Move Billions

Recent developments across the cryptocurrency sector spanned corporate adoption, government wallet activity, security warnings, and macroeconomic concerns. Notable events included a corporate bitcoin purchase by Robinhood and substantial digital asset transfers involving U.S. government-linked wallets.

Robinhood added $25 million in bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet, expanding its exposure beyond the cryptocurrency services it provides to retail customers.

Meanwhile, federal wallets shifted substantial crypto assets. Following earlier bitcoin transfers totaling $770 million, U.S. government-linked wallets moved another 12,267.02 BTC, valued at approximately $1.01 billion, alongside $94 million in Tether. The ultimate purpose of these transfers remains unclear.

Security and macro concerns also drew attention during the week. Blockchain researcher Justin Drake warned that future artificial intelligence breakthroughs could pose a threat to widely used cryptography, urging preparation. Additionally, Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio stated in an October 6 interview with Bloomberg that the United States could face a debt crisis within three years as interest payments increasingly crowd out other areas of the federal budget.

On the investor sentiment front, a survey of wealthy individuals indicated that digital assets, particularly bitcoin, were favored as top long-term performers. Between 65% and 86% of survey respondents cited currency debasement as a primary motivation for holding bitcoin.
