Robinhood Reports 61% Crypto Volume Increase in August

Online brokerage Robinhood saw its crypto trading volume rise 61% month-on-month to $17.5 billion in August, according to the company's August operating report published Thursday. Despite the monthly increase, the figure remained 38% below the level recorded in the same period a year earlier.

According to the report, the recently acquired crypto exchange Bitstamp accounted for $10.1 billion of the August total, while the Robinhood app generated $7.4 billion. Bitstamp's volume increased by 53% compared to July but declined 30% year-on-year. Meanwhile, volume on the Robinhood app grew 72% month-on-month, though it dropped 46% from August 2025.

Bitstamp, which Robinhood acquired in June 2025, also served as the larger contributor to the company's crypto volume during the second quarter, accounting for $22 billion out of a $40 billion total, compared with $18 billion from the Robinhood app.

During the second quarter, Robinhood's crypto transaction revenue fell 38% year-on-year to $100 million from about $160 million a year prior. However, growth in options, equities, and event contracts offset the decline, enabling the brokerage to post record quarterly revenue and earnings.

The August operating report noted that crypto volume originating from the Robinhood Chain was excluded from the reported figures.
