Robinhood Ventures Fund I has invested $30 million in Erebor Bank, National Association, through a preferred stock purchase, the companies announced on October 21, 2026.
What Robinhood is buying into
The $30 million buys preferred stock, not common shares. Erebor is designed to serve capital-intensive sectors such as AI, robotics, defense, and hard tech. The bank argues that traditional banks have left a gap in servicing these high-risk, emerging technology companies. Its product menu includes specialized services such as API banking and stablecoin payments. While Erebor serves potentially crypto-related clients, its headline focus remains the broader hard tech crowd.
Growth and financials
Erebor received its national charter in February 2026 after approvals in October and December 2025. The bank is based in Columbus, Ohio. It launched with around $635 million in initial funding from venture capital sources. Deposits climbed from approximately $1.1 billion shortly after launch to approximately $4.6 billion by the end of July 2026. Annualized revenue estimates sat at about $112 million as of July 2026.
Robinhood now joins an investor base that already includes Lux Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.
Building out beyond the core
Erebor has been staffing up, bringing on a former HSBC executive to strengthen its emerging market initiatives. In October 2026, the bank also announced a $20 million community opportunity initiative aimed at community development.
What this means
The deposit trajectory is the number to watch. Going from approximately $1.1 billion to approximately $4.6 billion is impressive, but deposits concentrated in high-risk sectors can also leave quickly when those sectors hit a rough patch. The stablecoin payments piece deserves attention from the crypto side of the market. A federally chartered bank building stablecoin payments into its offering adds another link between digital assets and the regulated banking system.
For now, Erebor has capital, a growing deposit base, about $112 million in estimated annualized revenue as of July, and a fresh $30 million from Robinhood Ventures Fund I.
