Robinhood Ventures has invested $10 million in Cognition, the San Francisco startup behind the AI coding agent Devin, according to an announcement on October 23, 2026.
The investment positions Robinhood Ventures as a backer of two competing AI coding platforms. Earlier in 2026, the venture arm committed $75 million to OpenAI, creator of the Codex coding tool.
The AI Coding Competition
The AI coding space has become one of the most contested areas of technology. OpenAI's Codex, Anthropic's Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cognition's Devin all compete for the same pool of developers.
Devin is designed to carry out coding tasks, fix bugs, and streamline engineering workflows with limited manual intervention. Cognition claims that Devin writes 89% of its own code.
Recent Funding and Valuation
Robinhood's $10 million investment is modest compared to Cognition's recent fundraising activity. In September 2026, Cognition closed a Series E funding round at a $48 billion post-money valuation. The company raised over $1 billion in a Series D in May 2026 at a $26 billion valuation.
Cognition's revenue grew significantly during this period, rising from approximately $492 million in May 2026 to nearly $900 million by September 2026, driven largely by enterprise adoption of Devin.
Enterprise Adoption
Cognition's enterprise clients include NVIDIA, Citi, GE Aerospace, and Mercedes-Benz. The company also counts Andreessen Horowitz and Accel among its investors. Cognition was co-founded by Scott Wu, Steven Hao, and Walden Yan.
Strategic Positioning
For Robinhood Ventures, the investment provides exposure to one of the fastest-growing applied AI businesses. The $10 million stake represents a small portion of Cognition's valuation but gives the venture arm a foothold in the market. By backing both OpenAI and Cognition, Robinhood is investing in competing sides of the AI coding space.
For Cognition, the investment adds another recognizable name to its cap table and brings in backing from the finance sector, potentially useful as the company expands enterprise relationships with banking clients.
