Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of MicroStrategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), posted the company's bitcoin acquisition chart on X on Sept. 20 with the message "A little more orange," signaling a potential new bitcoin purchase.
The orange circles on the chart represent MicroStrategy's bitcoin purchases. The image showed the company holding 845,050 BTC valued at approximately $67.90 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $75,412 per coin and an unrealized gain of roughly $3.95 billion.
Saylor used similar language before the company's previous confirmed acquisition in August. His "We're Back" message preceded a disclosure of a 4,603 BTC purchase for approximately $369.7 million between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30, at an average of $80,318 per coin.
Two Weeks Without Changes
MicroStrategy reported in a Sept. 14 SEC filing that it neither bought nor sold bitcoin from Sept. 8 through Sept. 13, holding steady at 845,050 BTC. The aggregate purchase cost stands at $63.73 billion, including fees and expenses.
During this period, the company used $139.3 million in flexible cash to repurchase MSTR preferred shares instead of acquiring additional bitcoin.
Financial Position
As of Sept. 13, MicroStrategy had $5.10 billion in its U.S. dollar reserve and $1.30 billion in flexible USD cash. The reserve supports preferred-stock dividends and interest payments, while flexible cash may fund bitcoin purchases, securities repurchases, or other treasury purposes.
The company's next regulatory filing will provide the official confirmation of whether Saylor's latest signal corresponds to a completed bitcoin acquisition.
