A quarterly regulatory report made public in August shows that the Kinetics Internet Portfolio held 1,875 Class A common shares in Ripple Labs, valued at $246,318.75 as of June 30.
The New York-based mutual fund reported $248.28 million in net assets and $251.70 million in total assets, putting the Ripple position at approximately 0.0992% of the fund's net assets. An earlier portfolio report for March 31 listed the exact same share quantity, though those holdings were described at the time as preferred shares rather than common shares with a fair value of $228,281. Because the quantity of shares remained unchanged, the filing does not establish that Kinetics recently purchased the position.
Kinetics classified the investment as a Level 3 holding, indicating that the private shares rely on unobservable inputs rather than active market quotations. The reported value increased by about 7.9%, or roughly $18,038, between the end of March and June 30.
The regulatory filing highlights the legal distinction between Ripple equity and the XRP token. Ripple stock represents an equity interest in Ripple Labs, whereas XRP provides no shares, dividends, voting rights, or claims on company profits. Legal separation between the two means an eventual public listing would not automatically grant XRP owners any interest in the company.
Ripple has not announced an IPO date or filed a public registration statement. Company President Monica Long previously stated that Ripple had no specific listing timeline, and private fund holdings do not indicate that a public offering is imminent.
