Sei Network Faces 2026 Downturn Amid Technical Upgrades

Sei's SEI token has declined sharply in 2026, with prices approaching $0.020 support levels, though long-term analyst forecasts suggest potential recovery toward $1.26–$1.45 by 2032. The network is deploying its Giga upgrade to boost transaction capacity.

Sei Network Faces 2026 Downturn Amid Technical Upgrades

Sei (SEI) has experienced significant downward pressure through 2026, with the token approaching support near $0.020 after testing lower levels throughout the year. The network saw its price slip below $0.10 in the first quarter, declined further to $0.045 in the second quarter, and formed another low at $0.038 in the third quarter.

According to technical analysis, SEI remains within a falling wedge pattern that has defined its price action since 2025. If buyers defend the $0.020 support zone, analysts suggest the token could rebound toward $0.10–$0.20 by year-end, with a bullish scenario potentially pushing toward $0.30.

Network Activity Decline

On-chain metrics reveal a sharp contraction in network engagement. Daily active addresses dropped from nearly 2 million in March 2026 to fewer than 5,000 by late June. Daily transactions cascaded from 3 million to under 25,000, with network throughput falling from 38 transactions per second in February to approximately 1 TPS by June.

Analysts have attributed this decline partly to the network's shift away from low-fee, high-volume activity such as wash trading, suggesting a deliberate pivot toward higher-value transactions.

Giga Upgrade Deployment

Sei Labs has rolled out major upgrades throughout 2026. On September 1, the lab released benchmark results for FlatKV, showing an average throughput of 205,913 transactions per second—representing a 13.7x speedup over the current event store. In August, Sei Labs unveiled Eidos, the storage layer overhaul supporting execution speeds up to 5 gigagas/s.

On August 4, Sei Network deployed version 6.6, incorporating nearly 400 pull requests and bringing initial mainnet components of the Giga architecture live. The upgrade included the Ares execution client and the Eidos storage separation layer. The full Giga upgrade is designed to support over 200,000 transactions per second with sub-400ms finality.

2024 Evolution and EVM Integration

Sei transitioned from its original focus as a sector-specific Layer 1 blockchain optimized for decentralized exchanges to a Parallelized EVM following its V2 upgrade in 2024–2025. This pivot allowed the network to combine Ethereum's developer ecosystem with performance capabilities typically seen in non-EVM chains.

In April 2026, Coinbase integrated the Sei EVM, transitioning all SEI network transactions to the new standard. Coinbase Markets announced in February that the transition from Cosmos-based transactions to EVM-only architecture would occur from April 6–8, 2026.

Long-Term Projections

Despite near-term bearish conditions, analysts maintain bullish long-term forecasts. SEI is projected to trade between $0.2450 and $0.2940 in 2027, then accelerate growth through the following years. By 2030, projections place SEI in the $0.7850–$0.9050 range. Long-term models forecast SEI reaching $1.26–$1.45 by 2032.

These projections assume ecosystem maturity and increased adoption of Sei's infrastructure for institutional real-world asset tokenization, high-frequency gaming, and AI-agent economies.
