Solana Breaks $110 as Alpenglow Network Upgrade Moves to Public Testing

Solana (SOL) has surpassed the $110 price threshold after weeks of resistance, with the cryptocurrency reaching $120 for the first time in approximately eight months. The breakthrough reinforces a near-term bullish structure, according to technical analysis.

Chart analysts have identified $133 as the subsequent significant resistance zone. Immediate support levels are positioned at $111.06 and $107.40, with a decline beneath $107.40 potentially compromising the bullish outlook.

Market analyst Ash Crypto noted that SOL has recaptured its 200-day moving average on the weekly timeframe and identified a weekly golden cross pattern forming. According to Ash Crypto's analysis, these technical indicators could suggest that Solana has completed its bear market bottom formation.

Alpenglow Upgrade Enters Public Testing

Solana is advancing a significant network enhancement called Alpenglow to the public testnet. The upgrade is engineered to reduce transaction finality duration from approximately 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds.

Alpenglow replaces Solana's current TowerBFT consensus mechanism with an alternative voting system named Votor. This allows validators to finalize blocks after just one or two voting cycles instead of processing through an extended series of onchain voting rounds.

The enhancement has already undergone more than four months of operation on a dedicated smaller testing network. Participating validators require Agave 4.3, which serves as the primary client software for operating Solana nodes. Anza issued a recommendation for all mainnet validators to adopt this version on September 21.

Anza's development roadmap indicates September 28 as a provisional date for activating Agave 4.3 capabilities on the mainnet. However, this does not constitute a confirmed deployment date for Alpenglow on mainnet, as the upgrade continues undergoing comprehensive testing procedures. Currently, Firedancer and Frankendancer client implementations do not include support for Alpenglow testing.
