Solana Co-Founder Proposes Validator-Run Oracle for SOL Minting Against Tokenized Collateral

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has proposed a validator stake-weighted oracle designed to mint fresh SOL against tokenized collateral, with the network's validators serving as price referees. Yakovenko shared the concept on X on October 24, 2026.

How the Proposal Works

The system would leverage Solana's existing validators to function as an oracle—a service that provides pricing data for assets to the blockchain. Under the proposal, validator input would be weighted according to the amount of SOL staked with each operator, similar to a voting system where larger stakeholders carry greater influence.

Once validators reach consensus on the value of tokenized collateral, the mechanism would mint new SOL against that collateral. The network would generate revenue through taxation of activity related to this minted SOL, with the goal of increasing overall network revenue.

Timing and Technical Context

The proposal emerged days after Solana's Alpenglow upgrade went live on October 21, 2026. The upgrade reduced transaction finality to approximately 150 milliseconds and optimized how validators submit vote transactions—improvements that would support a validator-based oracle system.

Stake-weighting is already embedded throughout Solana's architecture, making a stake-weighted oracle an extension of existing network design principles.

Current Status and Landscape

Yakovenko's post presents the concept as an idea rather than a formal governance proposal. No governance vote has been scheduled, and no implementation timeline has been announced. The proposal has not yet entered Solana's formal governance discussions or technical forums.

Solana currently relies on oracle networks such as Pyth and RedStone to supply price data for tokenized assets. A validator-run oracle would introduce a native alternative tied directly to Solana's security model, potentially complementing or competing with existing providers.

Key Considerations

Minting new SOL would increase the network's token supply, requiring stakeholders to trust that new issuance is properly backed and priced. Concentrating pricing authority among validators—the same parties securing the chain—raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and the risk of manipulation by large stakers.

The proposal does not specify which tokenized assets would qualify as collateral or identify particular DeFi protocols that might participate.
