Solana DEX Weekly Trades Surpass NYSE for First Time With 208 Million Transactions

Solana decentralized exchanges (DEXs) processed roughly 208 million spot trades in the week ending September 13, according to data cited by The Kobeissi Letter, surpassing the New York Stock Exchange's 190 million trades over the same period. The gap with Nasdaq also narrowed to approximately 47 million trades, the smallest on record.

The comparison requires important context. A Solana DEX swap is not economically equivalent to an equity trade on the NYSE, as trade sizes, market structure, and underlying assets differ substantially. The milestone reflects transaction volume rather than economic value.

Jupiter Drives the Activity Surge

Much of the acceleration has occurred through Jupiter, Solana's largest trading aggregator. Jupiter has processed more than 80 million trades this month, representing a 38% month-over-month increase. Weekly Solana spot DEX trade activity has climbed 185% from July lows.

According to data from Defillama cited by Solana Sensei, total Solana DEX volume reached approximately $168 billion in the third quarter, with current activity averaging roughly $2.5 billion per day.

What the Milestone Signals

The achievement reflects a network increasingly being used as active market infrastructure rather than simply as a venue for passive token holding. Both trade count and dollar volume metrics point toward this shift toward onchain markets.

The trading surge arrives as SOL's price has reclaimed important long-term technical levels, including its 50-week moving average and exponential moving average. A comparable reclaim in 2023 preceded a substantial price movement, though technical setups rarely repeat uniformly.

While Solana has not become economically larger than the NYSE, the milestone represents a significant point in the development of onchain finance: a public blockchain processed more individual weekly trades than one of the world's most prominent stock exchanges.
