A Solana-based meme coin called Dacity Coin surged 2,900% in the hour following the release of Grand Theft Auto 6's launch trailer on Thursday. The token jumped from a $104,000 market capitalization to $3.18 million after appearing briefly in the trailer on the side of a plane.
According to data from DEX Screener, 24 traders profited more than $10,000 each from the token's rise, with the top trader converting $1,912 into $44,000. Dacity Coin currently trades at a $1.5 million market cap, having declined approximately 53% from its peak.
Pre-Release Creation
The token was created five days before the official trailer release. Developers had discovered Dacity Coin references in leaked GTA 6 gameplay footage, prompting traders to create a real meme coin of the same name on Pump.fun, a Solana launchpad. The token initially launched on October 11, reaching a peak market cap of $1.14 million before declining to $144,700 and trading relatively flat until Thursday's spike.
In-Game Context
In the GTA 6 trailer, the plane displays text reading "DacityCoin AudaCity." In previously leaked footage, the game's protagonist Lucia wears an AudaCity parachute while skydiving. According to the GTA wiki, Lucia performs this stunt to advertise the AudaCity brand and attract investment to Dacity Coin, suggesting the game may be satirizing promotional tactics used by real meme coin creators.
Similar Precedent
A comparable situation occurred in February 2025 when Fortnite added a fictional crypto coin called Dill Bits. Traders quickly launched a real Dill Bits meme coin on Solana that reached a $4.78 million market cap before crashing 96%. The token subsequently pumped 2,700% in April before dropping 82% within days. Epic Games issued a statement at the time that there was "no real cryptocurrency or memecoin associated with Fortnite or endorsed by Epic."
Rockstar Games has not publicly commented on Dacity Coin and did not respond to a request for comment.
