Solana (SOL) has broken higher following a prolonged period of compressed trading, clearing the $80 region with a nearly 13% jump. The move coincides with a broader risk-on shift across the cryptocurrency market, with recoveries in Bitcoin and Ethereum lifting overall market liquidity and contributing to short liquidations.
For weeks, SOL traded inside a narrowing structure where sellers capped rebounds while buyers defended the lower boundary around the $70 to $80 range. The recent daily candle pushed the token decisively past the $78 to $80 resistance zone, backed by a significant increase in trading volume.
Derivatives Activity Expands
The breakout is accompanied by a sharp rise in derivatives participation. Solana futures volume surged by approximately 177% to reach around $13.7 billion, while open interest climbed 7.9% to $5.66 billion. Additionally, options volume accelerated by more than 400%, signaling heightened trader attention.
Market analysts note that if prices continue to rise alongside orderly positioning, the breakout thesis is strengthened. However, if the price stalls near resistance while leverage remains elevated, high leverage could lead to liquidation-driven volatility.
Key Levels to Watch
Following the move above $80, the immediate upside target is $90. A sustained move past $90 would place the $98 to $100 supply zone into focus, with a daily close above $100 potentially signaling a move beyond the previous corrective structure.
On the downside, the $80 mark serves as a crucial level for buyers to defend. A successful retest with buyer support would reinforce the credibility of the breakout, whereas a drop back below $80 could weaken the setup and invite a return toward the $70 to $72 range.
