Solana Surpasses $100 Amid Increased ETF Inflows and Higher Derivatives Volume

Solana has cleared the $100 psychological barrier following a weekly rally of more than 25%, bringing a breakout into focus after months of compressed price action. The asset reached $13.08 before settling around $101.70, supported by a volume spike that cleared the $100-$105 supply band.

Institutional demand has accompanied the price movement, with spot Solana ETFs recording $33.49 million of inflows on August 24. For the week, Solana-focused ETFs recorded $28.34 million in inflows, marking their strongest weekly intake since mid-May and four consecutive days of inflows. Cumulative U.S. spot Solana ETF inflows have now surpassed $1.16 billion.

Network Upgrades and Protocol Developments

At the protocol level, Solana's Agave 4.2 release is live on the mainnet, bringing code for larger transaction capacity and a phased reduction in slot times from 400ms toward 200ms. Additionally, the network is preparing for the Alpenglow consensus upgrade, which targets roughly 150ms finality with mainnet activation expected in the third quarter of 2026.

Derivatives Activity and Market Positioning

Derivatives data highlights increased positioning around the breakout. Over a 24-hour period, SOL futures volume jumped 78.14% to $15.30 billion, while open interest climbed 12.65% to $6.66 billion. Options volume also increased 70.59% to $33.80 million, and options open interest rose 6.63% to $151.85 million.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has moved into the high-80s, reflecting strong momentum while leaving the asset exposed to potential short-term cooling. On the upside, resistance is noted around the $105-$110 range, with a daily close above $110 potentially bringing $120 into focus. On the downside, the $100-$102 zone serves as the initial breakout-retest level, with structural support located further down at the $85-$90 region.
