Solflare, a non-custodial wallet for the Solana network, announced on October 27, 2026, that a security incident at one of its staking providers has prevented its validator from earning rewards. According to the company, user funds are not affected.
The incident involved private keys held by the unnamed staking provider, which compromised the Solflare validator’s ability to earn or distribute rewards to users who delegated to it. Solflare emphasized that the issue is confined to the provider’s key management and does not impact user wallets or the broader Solflare ecosystem.
Delegated stakes remain under user control
On Solana, delegating SOL to a validator does not transfer ownership of the tokens. The stake remains in a stake account controlled by the user, while the validator uses the delegated stake to help run the network and shares rewards with delegators. Because the provider’s keys were compromised, the validator lost its ability to perform its role, but it never had the ability to access user deposits.
Migration and compensation plans
Solflare is preparing an app update that will guide users through migrating their stake to a new validator. The company says the goal is to restore rewards as soon as possible. It also plans to compensate users who complete the migration, though no specific figure or formula has been announced.
Rewards are expected to be paused only during the transition period. Once a user’s stake is pointed at the new validator, earning should resume.
Background and implications
Solflare launched in 2020 and has become one of the better-known wallets in the Solana ecosystem, focusing on letting users stake SOL without giving up control of their assets. The company has previously communicated publicly about security matters, including the Drift Protocol issue in April 2026.
For affected users, the immediate cost is lost yield during the downtime. Their principal remains untouched, but each day the stake sits on a non-earning validator is a day without rewards. The details of the compensation will matter, as users will want to know whether the payout roughly matches what they would have earned or is closer to a goodwill gesture. Solflare has not yet specified which it will be.
Users are advised to watch for the Solflare app update, migrate their stake when prompted, and monitor how the compensation is calculated.
