Sony-Backed Soneium Shifts to Tokenized IP Economy With K-Pop and Anime Partnerships

Soneium, the Sony-backed blockchain network, announced on October 26 that it is transitioning to an onchain ecosystem centered on tokenized intellectual property. The network will introduce a native SONEIUM token and shift its focus from infrastructure to an entertainment economy built around programmable ownership, licensing, and revenue distribution.

The updated roadmap aims to enable creators, studios, and fans to participate in the economic lifecycle of entertainment assets. According to Soneium, the ecosystem currently supports more than 250 applications spanning music, gaming, anime, film, collectibles, and fan creations.

Tokenized IP Model

Central to the initiative is the "Tokenized IP" framework, which represents the future economic value of creative projects on-chain. These digital assets can take the form of nonfungible collectibles for fan engagement or fungible tokens designed to circulate as primary currencies within specific IP economies, both featuring automated revenue-splitting capabilities.

The initial rollout features Moriusa, a popular character intellectual property from Tokyo-based entertainment firm Super State Holdings. The integration will support merchandise, animated short series, and broader licensing ventures.

Financial Instruments and Partnerships

Soneium plans to introduce financial instruments including bond instruments backed by entertainment revenues. The platform is partnering with K-pop enterprise Dayonedream to tokenize live concert royalty streams, enabling scaled creator royalties across supported applications.

To support cross-platform licensing and autonomous discovery, Soneium is adopting ERC-8432, which provides machine-readable licensing interfaces. This standard allows human operators and autonomous agents to verify and settle rights agreements without platform lock-in.

User access to the ecosystem will be provided through the Soneium portal and the Startale app super app. Details regarding the token generation event schedule will be released at a later date.
