Two Solana-based meme coins experienced significant upward price movements on Friday following a viral social media post that attracted a wave of token pitches.
Jimothy The Raccoon (JIMOTHY) rose by 41% over a 24-hour period, while Bullshit Coin (BULLSHIT)—a token centered on self-aware jokes about meme coin culture—gained 21%. Neither price move was preceded by an official project announcement.
Social Media Activity Drives Market Movement
The market activity followed a Friday morning post on X (formerly Twitter) by Nate Esparza, a senior technical product manager for ads at SpaceXAI, who stated that the crypto community on the platform is "insane." SpaceXAI was formed in February when Elon Musk integrated his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, into SpaceX.
In response to Esparza's post, traders flooded the reply section with raccoon images, green bull graphics, and direct pitches for various tokens.
According to Coingecko data, JIMOTHY traded near $0.0096 with a market capitalization of approximately $9.7 million, while BULLSHIT sat near $0.0038. Trading volume was notably high for BULLSHIT, which turned over roughly $4.7 million in 24 hours—surpassing its entire market value, a pattern common in thin Solana meme coin markets.
Background on the Jimothy Meme
The Jimothy token is tied to a real raccoon in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood with short spine syndrome, a condition leaving the animal short and rounded. Marketing specialist Kiana Hall filmed the raccoon in July, and the resulting video accumulated millions of views, eventually inspiring a mural, tattoos, and a city proclamation.
While Elon Musk previously amplified a raccoon video on August 8, which briefly sent JIMOTHY up 331%, he did not post about Friday's exchange. Friday's market activity demonstrated that community replies alone could influence the token's price chart without direct engagement from high-profile accounts.
