US spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbed $313.6 million in net inflows between September 1 and September 18, though the month's cumulative flow masked significant underlying volatility. Across 13 trading sessions, the funds experienced near-daily swings between inflows and outflows, with six sessions ending positive and seven negative.
The category now manages approximately $102.5 billion in total assets. September 3 delivered the largest single-day surge at $730.9 million in net inflows, while September 18 contributed another $433 million, with Fidelity's FBTC accounting for $310.7 million and BlackRock's IBIT adding $108.4 million.
Capital Concentration in Two Firms
BlackRock and Fidelity have continued to capture an outsized share of new capital, while other issuers including Bitwise, ARK 21Shares, and VanEck maintain positions but compete for a shrinking portion of incremental flows. Grayscale's GBTC, once the largest Bitcoin investment vehicle before spot ETFs launched, has recorded sustained net redemptions as investors migrate to lower-fee alternatives.
Cumulative Flows and Price Gains
All-time net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs have reached approximately $55.16 billion. The gap between cumulative inflows and total assets under management indicates that roughly half the current value reflects Bitcoin price appreciation rather than new capital deployment.
The pattern of trading sessions ending alternately in gains and losses suggests that institutional buyers are using price dips as entry points, while active traders are trimming positions on rallies. The dominance of BlackRock and Fidelity reflects their role as default options for financial advisors beginning to incorporate Bitcoin exposure into portfolio construction.
