Stablecoin Exchange Reserves Fall to $64B as Binance Dominance Grows

Stablecoin reserves held on centralized exchanges have fallen to $64 billion from roughly $80 billion, representing a 20% decline in immediately available exchange liquidity. This reduction leaves trading venues with less capital positioned for spot purchases compared to levels near late 2025.

Binance has strengthened its market position during this decline, increasing its share of total exchange reserves from nearly 60% to 68.5%. This concentration gives Binance greater influence over which stablecoin liquidity pools remain available for deployment to markets.

Liquidity Shifting Away From Exchanges

The decline in exchange reserves reflects a broader movement of stablecoin capital away from centralized venues. Overall stablecoin supply has reached record highs of approximately $310 billion according to DeFiLlama, significantly exceeding the $64 billion currently held on exchanges.

This capital migration supports self-custody, decentralized finance, payments, and other on-chain activity rather than exchange order books. Two large stablecoins dominate the market, accounting for approximately 83% of total stablecoin supply: Tether (USDT) represents roughly $183 billion, while USD Coin (USDC) comprises $73 to $74 billion.

The distinction between broader ecosystem liquidity and funds positioned for immediate market deployment has become increasingly important. Exchange netflows are now a stronger signal for potential trading activity, with rising stablecoin deposits indicating capital moving closer to spot purchases and outflows suggesting liquidity remaining outside centralized markets.

Binance Reserves Show Composition Changes, Limited Growth

Binance's average stablecoin reserve stood at approximately $42.92 billion monthly, growing only 0.44 percent each month. This modest expansion indicates that stablecoin flows have not provided substantial new liquidity to the exchange.

Daily USDC inflows to Binance reached $125.4 million, but these increases resulted primarily from changes in reserve composition rather than net growth. Capital movements included $929 million of USDT entering through TRON and $765 million of USDT leaving Ethereum, reflecting migration between blockchain networks.

USDC's supply ratio on Binance recovered to 0.0986 but remained below its six-month average of 0.1128. The limited growth in overall reserve size constrains Binance's ability to expand spot-buying capability. Reserves would need to grow to $48.17 billion while the USDC ratio rises above its longer-term average for conditions to materially change.
