Standard Chartered Projects SKY Token Could Reach $0.325 by End-2028

Standard Chartered set a price target of $0.325 for SKY by the end of 2028, representing a fivefold increase from the $0.065 reference price cited in the bank's research note dated September 11. SKY traded near $0.0628 on September 12, slightly below the baseline figure.

The projection ties SKY appreciation to expanded value distribution through staking rewards and token buybacks as the Sky ecosystem scales. According to Geoff Kendrick, Global Head of Digital Assets Research at Standard Chartered, "As the system scales up, we expect Sky to pass on 5x more value to token holders by the end of 2028."

USDS Supply and Agent Borrowing Drive Revenue

Sky operates as a decentralized finance protocol centered on USDS, a dollar-pegged stablecoin that functions as the primary liquidity source for lending and savings products. Unlike conventional stablecoins designed for payments, USDS offers access to yield-generating and borrowing mechanisms. Kendrick characterized the ecosystem as "akin to a federal bank – it issues money (stablecoins), creates a governance framework and charges a wholesale rate of interest to borrowers."

Sky agents—decentralized capital allocators—borrow USDS at wholesale rates and deploy it across approved yield strategies. Since the agent model began in September 2024, agents have borrowed $5.9 billion in USDS, according to Standard Chartered. Agent deployments exceeded $5.5 billion in June, with allocations involving institutional partners including Janus Henderson, BlackRock, Anchorage, PayPal, Securitize, and Galaxy.

USDS supply reached $10.04 billion in June, a year-over-year increase of 96.9 percent, though the total declined from $11.14 billion in May. Standard Chartered identified further USDS expansion as the central driver of higher protocol revenue and token-holder distributions.

Staking and Buyback Mechanisms

Protocol revenue flows to SKY holders through treasury-funded open-market token purchases and staking rewards. Repurchased tokens can be burned or redistributed to stakers under governance-controlled parameters, with maximum supply capped at 23.46 billion SKY.

The ecosystem expanded its lending infrastructure through stUSDS, a higher-risk product for sophisticated participants that provides capital for borrowing against staked SKY positions. These interconnected products create additional channels for capital deployment and protocol fees as USDS usage increases.

Comparative Performance and Risk Factors

Standard Chartered expects SKY price gains to broadly track Ethereum performance and outpace Bitcoin through end-2028. The bank's separate 2028 targets set Ethereum at $18,000 and Bitcoin at $300,000.

Standard Chartered identified slower-than-expected growth in yield-bearing stablecoins as the principal risk to its SKY outlook.
