Strategy is proposing a shift to daily dividend accrual across its preferred share classes STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD. Under the plan, dividends would accrue each calendar day, including weekends and holidays, with payments processed on the next business day.
The proposal represents a change in payment frequency rather than a change to total returns. Strategy states the adjustment could support improved liquidity and price stability for the shares.
STRC and Its Current Dividend Structure
STRC currently offers a 12% annual dividend on its $100 stated value. A single $100 share generates approximately $12 annually under the current arrangement. The proposed daily model would divide this same annual income into smaller payments distributed throughout the year.
Distinction from MSTR
The daily dividend proposal underscores a fundamental difference between STRC and Strategy's other major security, MSTR. MSTR trades as a leveraged bet on Bitcoin and experiences sharp price movements accordingly. STRC, by contrast, is structured around income generation and Strategy's effort to maintain its price near the $100 mark.
Persistent Market Risks
Despite the proposed dividend changes, STRC remains exposed to broader market pressures. When Bitcoin fell below $60,000 in June, STRC declined to $75, demonstrating that the preferred shares are not insulated from market volatility.
Additionally, STRC's dividend depends on Strategy maintaining sufficient cash reserves to continue making payments. The proposed payment schedule does not eliminate this underlying financial dependency.
If approved, the change would provide shareholders with more frequent income distributions, though the associated market risks remain unchanged.
