Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) has resumed back-to-back weekly Bitcoin purchases for the first time since June, signaling a renewed accumulation phase after a three-month pause in consecutive acquisitions.
On September 28, the company announced it acquired 1,665 Bitcoin for $142.7 million during the week ended September 27, at an average price of $85,681 per token. This followed a purchase of 950 BTC for $75.7 million the previous week, representing a combined 2,615 BTC acquisition worth $218.4 million.
Record Holdings and Quarterly Recovery
The latest purchase was approximately 75% larger than the prior week's buy. These consecutive acquisitions reversed a period in which Strategy had alternated between purchases, pauses, and occasional sales that had pushed third-quarter accumulation into negative territory.
Strategy's Bitcoin holdings have now reached a record 847,666 BTC, acquired for approximately $63.9 billion at an average cost of $75,437 per token. The company has acquired 175,166 BTC year-to-date. With three trading days remaining in the third quarter, the company has achieved a net addition of 1,666 BTC during the period, extending its streak of consecutive quarters with net Bitcoin growth to 24 quarters.
Funding and Capital Allocation
Strategy financed the latest Bitcoin acquisitions through its at-the-market common-stock program, selling approximately 1.47 million MSTR shares for $246.2 million in net proceeds. The company retains $18.84 billion of remaining issuance capacity under the program.
Alongside Bitcoin purchases, Strategy deployed significant capital into repurchasing its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch preferred stock (STRC), acquiring 1.53 million shares for $151.7 million. The company funded these repurchases with $103.5 million from MSTR share sales and $48.1 million from its USD cash balance.
Preferred Stock and Dividend Proposal
Strategy has spent more than $1 billion repurchasing preferred shares under a $2 billion program to stabilize STRC, which traded below its $100 stated value for months before recently recovering to approximately $99. The security has paid a 12% annual dividend, with payment frequency increased from monthly to twice monthly in June.
The company has scheduled an October 28 special shareholder meeting to seek approval for daily dividend payments across its four US-listed preferred securities: STRC, STRF, STRK, and STRD. Under the proposal, STRC would be the first to transition to daily dividends, with initial daily-schedule payments expected to begin November 2.
As of September 27, Strategy held approximately $1 billion in general-purpose cash and $5 billion in its separate USD Reserve.
