Strategy's multi-billion dollar Bitcoin holding has returned to profitability for the first time since July. Driven by a five-day market rally that pushed Bitcoin past $78,000, the company's position moved back into the green.
Strategy holds 840,447 Bitcoin purchased at an average price of $75,385. With Bitcoin trading at $78,400, the stack is valued at approximately $65.89 billion against a total purchase cost of $63.36 billion. This represents an unrealized gain of roughly $2.53 billion, or 4.0%, marking a significant market reversal after spending much of the summer underwater when Bitcoin traded near $58,000.
Despite previous statements that the company would never sell Bitcoin, Strategy sold 6,948 BTC for about $432.5 million starting in May. Proceeds from these sales, including 1,690 BTC sold for $109 million during the week ending August 9, were used to buy back its variable-rate preferred stock, known as STRC. In subsequent weeks, the firm raised capital by selling MSTR shares rather than Bitcoin, bringing its cash reserve to $6.7 billion.
Across the wider market, major cryptocurrencies posted substantial weekly gains of 20% to 30%. Bitcoin rose 23% to $78,900, Ethereum gained 31% to $2,500, and Solana increased 26% to $96. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $1.92 billion in net inflows for the week, while Ethereum ETFs saw $693 million in net inflows.
