Sui's programmable offchain tunnels achieved 40.6 million transactions per second (TPS) during a live stress test designed to simulate high-frequency activity between artificial intelligence agents.
Conducted at the Sui Basecamp event in Singapore, the test peaked at 40,614,180 TPS. This performance surpasses a previous record of approximately 6.1 million TPS set during a similar test in July.
During the demonstration, more than 10,000 tunnels were opened on the Sui mainnet. The recorded activity spanned payments, gaming, and chat applications.
How Tunnels Function
Sui tunnels are programmable channels that process transactions offchain before settling them to the main Sui blockchain when closed. They are engineered to manage high-frequency interactions—such as those between AI agents—without forcing every individual transaction to execute directly onchain.
“Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day,” stated Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. Abiodun noted that while human users do not require such immense capacity, automated agents do.
Independent security firm CertiK acted as an auditor for the demonstration. CertiK is currently reviewing the test data, and a formal report is expected in the coming days.
