At the fifth edition of the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland, Italian robotics startup G Bionics showcased a humanoid robot that ran Tether’s on‑device AI platform, QVAC, entirely on board. The demonstration emphasized that the robot’s decision‑making was performed locally, without reliance on remote servers.
Demo details
The robot, built on G Bionics’ GENE.01 platform, combines full‑body tactile sensing with vision and processes sensor data internally. The company presented the setup as a solution for low latency and private operation, arguing that local inference eliminates network round‑trip delays and keeps sensor data on the device.
Tether’s involvement
Tether, known for its dollar‑pegged stablecoin, invested €70 million in G Bionics during the startup’s seed round in December 2025. The investment aligns with Tether’s broader interest in decentralized infrastructure, as highlighted by its CEO Paolo Ardoino.
Context and outlook
The Plan ₿ Forum, originally focused on Bitcoin payments, has expanded its agenda to include digital sovereignty, AI, and robotics. The event attracted more than 4,600 attendees, providing a platform for Tether to present its AI initiative.
While the live demo demonstrated the feasibility of local AI inference, no independent performance metrics were released. Analysts will likely look for further validation through benchmark testing, pilot deployments, and commercial contracts before assessing the commercial viability of the GENE.01 robot and broader adoption of QVAC.
