The Sandbox Drops 10% Amid Wider Gaming Sector Correction

The Sandbox [SAND] dropped more than 10% over a 24-hour period, marking the largest daily drawdown among major gaming tokens. The decline follows a period of strong performance, which included a monthly surge of over 80% in September and a 68% gain over the preceding week.

The broader gaming sector has entered a correction phase that began at the start of October. Trading volume for the sector fell by 23% over 24 hours to $887 million, while the sector's market capitalization declined by one percent to approximately $7.50 billion. For The Sandbox specifically, CoinMarketCap data showed a 14% drop in daily mindshare, with mentions and engagements decreasing by over 2,000 to approximately 10.60K in a single day.

In the short term, SAND traded within a descending trend channel that functions as a potential bull flag. Bears maintained control with the Bull Bear Power indicator in negative territory, while the altcoin traded above the channel's mid-level. Key demand levels to watch include $0.06, with potential targets at $0.085 if the price breaks above the channel, or $0.043 in the event of a breakdown.

Selling pressure has substantially decreased compared to earlier in the month, when up to 46.32 million tokens were sold. At press time, net volume was nearly flat, with 3.54 million SAND sold. Exchange reserves, which had risen from 71 million to 125 million tokens during the first four days of the month, saw a reversal as over 17 million SAND left exchanges over a two-day period, pointing to spot buying during the market retracement.

Market participant positioning varied across segments. Retail Long/Short ratios on Binance, OKX, and Bybit stood at 1.12, 1.47, and 1.41, respectively. Whales also maintained ratios above 1.31 on Binance and OKX, though OKX recorded a seller-dominated whale ratio of 0.98. Meanwhile, smart money participants leaned bearish across exchanges, contributing to a balanced futures market where long volume accounted for 53.50% ($22 million) against short orders at $19 million over a four-hour window.
