Tokenized Stocks on Solana Surge 3.5x Since January 1

Tokenized stocks on Solana have grown 3.5 times since January 1, according to Blockworks data. The expansion has been accompanied by record trading volumes, a sharp rise in the holder base, and a regulatory shift in the US that has removed some friction. At the same time, rival blockchains are eyeing the same territory.

Trading activity and supply

Tokenized equity volume on Solana reached approximately $4.4 billion in September 2026, a record monthly high for the network. October cooled only slightly, with volume at roughly $3.9 billion. Backpack and Sunrise led Solana’s decentralized exchange activity in October. A decentralized exchange lets users trade directly from their own wallets rather than through a traditional broker.

Supply has climbed as well. The value of tokenized equities on Solana hit $684 million in September 2026.

The holder count may be the most striking figure. Solana’s tokenized equity holders grew from around 300,000 to 400,000 in August to between 1 million and 1.5 million by mid-to-late October.

What pushed it forward

A few catalysts stand out. The first is product. In June 2026, Sunrise and Backpack launched a tokenized version of SpaceX, trading under the ticker SPCX. The asset generated hundreds of millions of dollars in trading volume. SpaceX is a private company, so ordinary investors have historically had very limited ways to get exposure to it. Wrapping that kind of asset in a token gave traders something they could not easily buy elsewhere.

The second catalyst is regulation. In September 2026, the US Securities and Exchange Commission introduced an innovation exemption that eased some requirements around tokenized trading. The exemption arrived the same month Solana posted its record of approximately $4.4 billion in tokenized equity volume.

Key players helped too. Early in the year, Solana captured a significant share of the tokenized equity market, driven by platforms including xStocks and Backpack/Sunrise.

A crowded field

For a while, Solana had this market close to cornered. In mid-2026, the network accounted for about 97% of tokenized equity trading across blockchains. Competition has intensified over the year, with market leadership shifting at times to other blockchains, including BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain.

Why tokenized stocks exist

A tokenized stock is a blockchain-based token designed to track the value of a share in a real company. The pitch is simple: trade equities with the speed and flexibility of crypto. In practice, that can mean round-the-clock trading, settlement on a blockchain, and access through a crypto wallet.

Tokenized equities sit inside a larger category known as real-world assets, or RWAs. The idea is to bring traditional financial instruments onto blockchains. The rise in tokenized equity supply this year has fed into a broader increase in real-world asset trading on-chain.

What this means

For Solana, the 3.5x growth since January 1 is a strong signal that its pitch of speed and low costs resonates with traders of tokenized assets. The jump in holders suggests that demand is broadening, not just concentrating among a handful of large accounts.

The SEC’s innovation exemption could matter well beyond Solana. Clearer rules tend to attract both established financial firms and new entrants, and more participants usually means more products and more liquidity across chains.

Market share in this sector has proven slippery, with leadership rotating between Solana, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain over the year. A network that held about 97% of trading in mid-2026 still had to contend with rivals taking the lead at points.

The SPCX listing showed how a single high-profile asset can drive hundreds of millions in volume. The holder count is another metric to track. Going from around 300,000 to 400,000 holders in August to between 1 million and 1.5 million by late October is a steep curve.

October’s volume of roughly $3.9 billion, slightly below September’s record, offers an early read. Activity stayed strong even as the initial rush faded.
