Tom Lee Predicts Bullish Year for Crypto as Wall Street Adopts Blockchain Technology

Bitmine Chairman Tom Lee expects crypto to enter a bullish 12-month period as Wall Street expands its use of blockchain technology, leverage returns to the market, and the industry approaches what he describes as the bottom of its four-year cycle.

Wall Street's Changing Relationship With Blockchain

Lee's central thesis rests on what he characterizes as a fundamental shift in how traditional finance views blockchain. "Only in the last year and a half have we seen Wall Street embrace blockchain, tokenized securities, stablecoins, and the idea that you're rebuilding entire rails on crypto," Lee said in an interview with Wealthion.

He pointed to public comments from Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink regarding moving financial assets onto blockchain infrastructure as evidence of this transition. "In no other era for the last 15 years of the history of blockchain has the financial system actually viewed it as a tool," Lee noted. "Now it does."

Lee argued this shift has expanded crypto's addressable market significantly, potentially giving crypto demand use cases beyond trading while connecting blockchain networks to traditional capital markets.

Market Conditions and Cycle Recovery

Lee identified a second element of his thesis: the market's cyclical position. He stated that much of the leverage contributing to previous crypto liquidations has been eliminated, leaving the market with a cleaner foundation. Lee also contended that the traditional four-year crypto cycle is approaching its bottom, while strong crypto-linked equity performance could encourage institutional investors to pursue returns.

During the third quarter, four of the Russell 1000's top 21 performing stocks were crypto-related, with Bitmine up 99% at the time of Lee's interview.

Regulatory Setback

Lee cited potential advancement of the CLARITY Act as a potential catalyst for the market. However, on September 15, the U.S. Senate rejected cloture on the measure by a vote of 49-50, falling short of the 60 votes required to advance it procedurally. This setback illustrates the uncertainty inherent in any extended market forecast.

Despite Lee's long history of bullish crypto predictions, his broader argument remains relevant: crypto is entering this cycle with Wall Street increasingly building infrastructure on the technology rather than simply trading around it.
