The TON Foundation has announced that its legacy bridge will be permanently decommissioned on September 1. According to official materials, the shutdown affects bridge-v3.ton.org.
Users holding Wrapped TON as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum or BNB Chain, as well as j-tokens such as jUSDT on TON, are required to bridge their assets back before the deadline to prevent losing access. The foundation emphasizes that this is a planned infrastructure transition rather than an exploit, emergency shutdown, or security failure.
Crypto bridges connect assets across different blockchains, but they also introduce operational risks. When a bridge is deprecated or retired, users must transition their funds within a designated timeframe to avoid redemption and mobility issues for tokens relying on the infrastructure.
Wrapped assets require specific attention because they depend on bridge infrastructure that accounts for native assets while issuing representations on external chains. Unwinding these positions must be done through proper routes.
Because bridge transitions often attract bad actors, users are advised to follow official instructions, utilize correct bridge interfaces, and exercise caution to avoid unofficial links or phishing attempts. Protocol operators typically retire legacy bridges to replace them with newer infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs, align with ecosystem roadmaps, or eliminate legacy risks.
Holders of wrapped TON and j-tokens are urged to confirm whether their holdings are affected and utilize official TON channels to complete asset migration prior to the September 1 deadline.
