The retrial of Tornado Cash co-founder and developer Roman Storm has been postponed from October 26, 2026, to April 26, 2027. US District Judge Katherine Polk Failla issued an order adjourning the proceedings while she weighs Storm's pending motion for acquittal and a related request for a continuance.
Storm's legal team filed a request for the delay on August 3, stating they required a minimum of 90 days following a court ruling on the acquittal motion to adequately prepare for a new trial. Court filings indicate that prosecutors opposed the adjournment.
The upcoming proceedings stem from a March request by US prosecutors to schedule an October retrial on two charges after a jury failed to reach unanimous verdicts. Those specific charges involve conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate US sanctions.
Previously, a Manhattan jury convicted Storm in August 2025 of conspiring to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Following that conviction, Storm sought a full acquittal on all three charges, arguing that prosecutors did not successfully prove he intended to assist criminals in misusing the Tornado Cash platform.
Addressing the development on social media, Storm stated that his acquittal motion remains undecided and expressed uncertainty regarding when the legal process will conclude.
