A mysterious trader has generated substantial profits from Hyperliquid's HYPE token in less than two years, according to analytics platform Lookonchain.
The whale purchased 257,928 HYPE tokens near the end of 2024 when the price was approximately $3.50 per token, representing an initial investment of roughly $900,000. Last week, the trader deposited 131,421 units valued at approximately $11.77 million into Kraken. Most recently, an additional 100,276 HYPE tokens worth around $8.17 million were transferred to the same exchange.
While Lookonchain did not confirm whether these transfers resulted in actual sales, such exchange deposits typically precede withdrawal and liquidation. If the transfers represent completed sales, the trader would have realized more than $19 million in profit. The investor continues to hold 26,231 HYPE tokens currently valued at over $2.14 million.
Crypto Volatility and Large Gains
Substantial profits from cryptocurrency investments within short timeframes are not uncommon, particularly with volatile assets. In spring 2024, one trader generated more than $3 million in paper gains from the Solana-based token Slerf. A previous trader purchased $8,000 worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB) in August 2020, and during a bull run in November 2021 transferred a large portion to different wallets, potentially realizing billions in profit.
Current Market Conditions
As of the time of reporting, HYPE trades around $81, down 16 percent from its historic peak of nearly $100 earlier in the year. The token is up 2 percent on a monthly basis.
HYPE's recent exchange netflow data shows significant outflows exceeding inflows over recent weeks, indicating that investors have been moving tokens from centralized exchanges to self-custody wallets, which may reduce immediate selling pressure on the asset.
