Transak has integrated its fiat on-ramp and off-ramp services into Tether's Wallet Development Kit (WDK), making it an officially listed fiat payment provider within the open-source toolkit. The integration allows developers building self-custodial, multi-chain wallets to add fiat-to-crypto transactions without constructing payment infrastructure from scratch.
What the integration enables
Wallets built with WDK can now let users purchase cryptocurrencies using credit or debit cards, bank transfers, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and convert crypto holdings back into fiat currency. The arrangement is designed to preserve the self-custodial nature of WDK-based wallets: users retain control of their private keys while Transak handles the fiat payment leg of transactions.
Transak said its infrastructure supports more than 136 cryptocurrencies across 45-plus blockchains, alongside payment options including cards, bank transfers, SEPA, Faster Payments, wire transfers and regional payment methods. The company also said the integration supports access to USD₮, Tether's US dollar-pegged stablecoin, XAU₮, its gold-backed token, USA₮, and Bitcoin.
Addressing payment infrastructure challenges
The partnership targets businesses building crypto wallets and other financial products. It addresses a key infrastructure challenge: connecting users' bank accounts with self-custodial wallets while managing payment integrations, regulatory requirements and local payout methods.
For developers, integrating fiat payment services can require establishing banking relationships, supporting different payment methods across markets and meeting applicable regulatory requirements. By incorporating Transak's services, WDK-based wallet developers can access these capabilities without building a separate payment system.
"Every wallet eventually needs a way for people to fund with fiat and withdraw," said Chandrasekar Kuppusamy, director of developer relations at Transak, in a press release shared with Block of Fame. He added that the integration allows teams building on WDK to access payment methods and payout processing without developing the infrastructure independently.
According to its official blog, Transak also provides identity verification, fraud monitoring and compliance services through its regulated entities and payment infrastructure. The company said more than 600 platforms already use its services.
Expanding reach and use cases
The integration extends Transak's reach across businesses developing on Tether's wallet infrastructure. Potential use cases include crypto wallets and exchanges, fintech companies and neobanks adding digital assets, as well as remittance and payroll platforms that need to facilitate payments in local currencies.
Businesses building on other technology stacks can also integrate Transak separately through its partner account and API infrastructure.
Tether's WDK provides developers with tools to build self-custodial wallets across multiple blockchain networks. Integrating fiat on- and off-ramps addresses a different part of the wallet development process: enabling users to move between traditional payment methods and digital assets.
The announcement did not disclose financial terms for the partnership or provide figures on the number of WDK-based wallets expected to adopt Transak's services.
