Crypto travel platform Travala has established a permanent AVA Strategic Reserve and committed to matching the AVA Foundation's existing monthly open-market buyback program, effectively doubling the volume of tokens purchased each cycle.
First Purchase Details
In the inaugural cycle, the AVA Foundation purchased 369,881.04 AVA from the open market. Travala matched that purchase with an equal amount, bringing the combined buyback to 739,762.08 tokens.
The AVA Foundation has historically repurchased more than 4.8 million AVA through its existing program. The new matching structure could effectively double future monthly buying if Travala continues the commitment as announced.
Reserve Policy vs. Token Burns
Travala has committed that AVA tokens purchased for the company reserve will be held permanently and will not be sold or transferred. This policy distinction is important: the company is not burning or destroying the tokens, which would permanently reduce supply at the protocol level. Instead, AVA held in the strategic reserve continues to exist on chain, with Travala's commitment operating as a corporate policy rather than a protocol-level mechanism.
This approach means the credibility of the reserve depends on Travala maintaining its commitment over time.
Economic Impact
The program changes AVA economics by creating recurring open-market demand while reducing the amount of tokens Travala could return to circulation from its own holdings. The travel platform has long integrated AVA into discounts, rewards, and its Smart loyalty program. The reserve extends that relationship by directing corporate capital toward the token.
For token holders, consistency will be a key factor to monitor. A sustained monthly program through varying market conditions would demonstrate Travala's commitment to treating AVA as a long-term treasury asset.
