U.S. President Donald Trump's TRUMP memecoin surged over 20% on Friday, reaching a market capitalization of $705 million. The digital asset climbed from a Thursday low of $2.31 to a peak of $2.93 before settling at $2.82.
Despite the daily gains, the memecoin remains down for 2026, having dropped from its January 1 opening price of $4.80. The asset also remains below its peak of $3.23 reached on August 22.
The price movement coincided with the release of a report by the U.S. nonprofit Public Citizen, which estimated that investors have lost $4.7 billion on Trump-linked crypto products. The report highlights that Trump amassed $1.4 billion in crypto profits during 2025 from sources including supporters, foreign governments, and entities seeking favor with the U.S. government.
According to Public Citizen, Trump and his family continue to control his namesake crypto ventures despite White House denials. The scale of these profits and potential conflicts of interest have contributed to stalling the Republican-led Senate's CLARITY Act.
The report also evaluated Trump's non-fungible token (NFT) projects, noting they generated $7.2 million in licensing fees and royalties across four sales series. Originally sold for an aggregate $12.3 million, the NFTs have fallen to a market value of approximately $3 million, resulting in at least $9.3 million in unrealized losses for investors.
