President Trump is pledging a $5,000 payment to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win control of both the House and Senate.
The promise came in Trump’s speech at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas, which focused largely on the administration’s economic agenda.
“If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000. It will be called the Trump dividend.”
Trump says the payment would go to every adult citizen with one condition, that the funds must be spent in the United States.
“I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000. But the only condition on the payment of this dividend that we’re going to be making, so it’s $5,000 to every adult. The only caveat I have is that the dividend that we’re making must be spent in the United States of America.”
The proposal echoes earlier free check ideas from the President, including a suggested $5,000 DOGE dividend and a $1,776 warrior dividend paid to more than 1 million service members earlier this year.
No details on funding, legality or implementation were provided in the remarks.
