Two bitcoin wallets dating to 2013 collectively moved approximately 416.69 BTC—worth roughly $34 million—within the same block on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at block height 971894. The transfers marked the first activity from both addresses in more than 13 years.
The first wallet, established on November 12, 2013, transferred 248.853 BTC across several unidentified addresses. The second, dating to August 20, 2013, moved 167.84 BTC after 13 years of inactivity. Both transactions were confirmed by MARA Pool.
Dormant Activity Trends
Saturday's movement of 416.69 BTC represented the majority of October's documented dormant coin activity. According to btcparser.com, 774.17 BTC in dormant coins have moved this month—a significant slowdown from August, when 6,427.59 BTC shifted from old wallets, and September, which saw 5,401.841 BTC across 94 distinct transfers.
Earlier in October, Galaxy Digital identified a wallet transferring 100 BTC from coins first mined in 2010, though that transaction was not included in October's dormant activity tally because the coins had been commingled with other bitcoin.
Signs of Coordination
The coordinated timing of both transfers suggests they may have originated from the same owner. Onchain patterns indicate the 167.84 BTC transfer followed a transaction structure similar to the first transfer. The oldest wallet in this batch dates to July 11, 2012, and transferred 25 BTC on October 2 after approximately 14.2 years of dormancy.
Moving dormant coins can signal plans to sell or reorganize holdings. However, there is currently no clear evidence that any of these coins have been put up for sale.
