Two massive Hyperliquid wallets linked to Abraxas Capital Management are carrying a combined net short exposure of approximately $1.58 billion against multiple cryptocurrency assets, with bitcoin and ether representing the largest positions.
The wallets hold short positions totaling around $948 million in bitcoin and ether combined, including 189,400 ETH and 5,120 BTC. According to onchain data from hypurrscan.io, these positions are currently showing an unrealized loss of approximately $114.5 million. Both wallets maintain substantial asset reserves to support the trades.
Blockchain explorers Nansen and Arkham Intelligence have labeled the addresses as belonging to Abraxas Capital Management, a London-based investment firm that manages billions in assets. The entity's balances have increased significantly in recent times.
Beyond their major bitcoin and ether positions, the wallets also hold smaller short positions against SOL, HYPE, ENA, XRP, SUI, and PUMP. The Hyperliquid addresses were flagged by the X account Hyperbot on October 6, 2026.
Analysts note that large short positions of this magnitude may serve multiple purposes beyond directional market bets. As the AI bot Hyperbot observed, spot holdings may offset these shorts, so the positions alone do not establish the wallets' net market exposure. Such concentrated bearish positioning could reflect hedging strategies, risk management, or other portfolio provisioning rather than certainty about future market direction. Visible whale positioning can also influence market psychology independently of underlying strategy.
