A coalition of law enforcement agencies from 30 countries, led by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior, has concluded a three-month operation targeting international digital fraud networks. The effort, called Operation Confrontation Ghost, resulted in the arrest of over 960 individuals and the identification of $39 billion in fraud-linked digital assets.
The operation thwarted more than 123 million online fraud attempts and involved Interpol, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, and 13 private sector partners including Huawei, Mastercard, and Meta. Authorities closed 4,000 bank accounts, shut down 570 social media accounts associated with fraud schemes, and raided 29 fraud centers.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the operation identified 3,500 suspects and 15,000 victims. Participating nations included the Philippines, Canada, Norway, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ecuador, Romania, Kuwait, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Denmark, Myanmar, Brazil, Jordan, Italy, the Maldives, Singapore, Sweden, China, Senegal, France, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Slovakia, Kenya, Morocco, the Netherlands, and South Korea.
Confrontation Ghost targeted fraud networks using artificial intelligence, digital platform fraud schemes, and online sextortion. The operation also secured $12 billion in tokenized asset transfers. Officials emphasized that the campaign demonstrated the importance of international coordination in addressing cross-border digital fraud and the misuse of cryptocurrencies to conceal illicit fund transfers.
