Uniswap Rallies 15% on CME Futures Announcement as Spot Buyers Drive Advance

Uniswap's UNI token rallied 15.17% after CME Group announced plans for regulated Futures contracts scheduled to launch on October 19th, subject to regulatory approval. The announcement, made on September 22nd, expanded trading activity around the token as spot volume surged 72.33% to $2.14 billion.

Spot Buyers Driving the Rally

Spot market participants maintained dominance throughout the price advance. The Spot Taker CVD metric showed aggressive buyers continuing to take liquidity from sellers, while Futures positioning shifted from seller dominance to neutral territory. Derivatives traders reduced selling pressure rather than turning bullish, leaving spot buyers as the primary driver of UNI's price recovery.

If Futures positioning shifts toward buyer control, derivatives demand could provide additional support to the rally. Until that occurs, spot traders bear primary responsibility for sustaining the price increase.

Whale Activity Strengthens the Move

Larger market participants maintained a stronger presence than retail traders during the advance, with the Whale versus Retail Delta registering 0.192 at press time. On-chain data showed two wallets accumulating substantial UNI positions: one newly created wallet purchased 269,477 UNI valued around $2.84 million, while another acquired 138,442 UNI worth approximately $1.23 million. Combined, the wallets accumulated roughly 407,919 UNI worth $4.07 million.

The whale activity level remained below several stronger peaks observed earlier in the year, indicating moderate but not exceptional institutional participation.

Technical Resistance at $11

UNI's price advance brought the token to approximately $10.43 after reclaiming the major $6 support level. The price now approaches the historically significant $11 resistance area, where previous rallies encountered substantial rejection. UNI last tested this region during late 2025 before sellers forced prices sharply lower.

Technical indicators presented mixed signals. The weekly RSI climbed to 75.98, entering overbought territory, though overbought readings alone do not guarantee immediate rejection when buyers remain aggressive. The MACD structure supported continued strength, with the MACD line at 1.020 sitting above its signal line at 0.254.

A sustained breakout above $11 could direct attention toward the next major resistance near $15. Rejection at this level, however, could expose the rally to broader retracement following the sharp advance.
